Wasn’t taking notes during the actual trip, but I can tell you that McCormick Place is clean and overwhelming, and the Inn of Chicago has excellent pillows, good rooms. The trip was all work, very little play, all social and draining, all wishing I was somewhere that I wasn’t.
Chicago is the only city that really intimidates me. I went to school in New York, so I’m used to the twists and turns of Manhattan, and its relative smallness. The day the power went out I walked from 14th St. and 3rd Ave to 105th and Riverside, and that made the city seem so small. Even though there is much more of it that I have never seen, New York City is conquerable. The skyscrapers there are familiar, graceful.
